Managers' Views

Holders Linfield powered their way to the top of the table with a comfortable win over the Whites at Windsor Park.

Stephen Douglas shot wide on four minutes before Linfield took the lead on seven minutes, Peter Thompson ran down the right and Glenn Ferguson came in at the back post to head the cross home.

Lisburn Distillery were however level on 11 minutes, Andrew Waterworth netting his first competitive goal for the club. A well taken strike, his left foot drive into the corner was from just inside the 18 yard box..

Phil Matthews saved from Chris Kingsberry before Matthews was embroiled in controversy on 30 minutes. Tim Mouncey broke clear and when Matthews dived for the ball, the former Whiteman ended up on the park, referee David Malcolm pointing immediately to the spot.

Whilst Matthews protested about the decision, he was given no chance with Ferguson's spot-kick, which went into the roof of the net.

On 37 minutes, Matthews made a great stop low to his left to keep out Peter Thompson.

Any hopes of a comeback for Paul Kirk's side ended on 48 minutes, Paul McAreavey took advantage of a hesitant defence to score from a close range snap-shot.

The closest the Whites came to hitting the target was on 65 minutes, Andy Kilmartin's header though was wide of the goal.Outside of that Linfield controlled the game as some of the youngsters in the Lisburn Distillery team were left chasing the ball and the game.

Jim Ervin netted Linfield's final goal right at the whistle. He broke down field to beat Matthews at the near post and Linfield now sit top of Group C

David Jeffrey - Linfield

"They (Lisburn Distillery) were well organised but following on from last week, I told my young players that they had to win the physical battle first and foremost and I think over the ninety minutes we did that.I thought the quality of our football was pretty good, we passed the ball about well, scored four goals and possibly could have scored more but I thought that it was pretty comprehensive."

Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

"I am very disappointed that it ended up four but I have no complaints about who was the better side in terms of the result. They did to us what we did to Glenavon last week.We did not work as hard as we needed to, we did not play anywhere near the football required, and any free-kicks that we conceded were because we were of the pace of the game.I am bitterly disappointed for our fans who came here today, whilst the third goal killed us off, there was a lack of hunger and passion in the second -half and our support deserved better."
