Managers' Views

Lisburn Distillery finally got one over on Larne in the CIS Cup at home last night. In recent years the Inver Park men have usually come away with the points however a 69th minute strike from John Martin saw Paul Kirk's side move into second place in Group C.

Larne showd their intent early on, Bertie Fulton getting to the bye-line, but his cross was just beyond Lewis Hamlin at the back post. After Thomasz Grzegorgzyic had also headed wide on 13 minutes, the home side settled and started to take the game to the visitors. Andrew Waterworth had a running duel with Larne keeper Chris Keenan, the keeper down to grasp a shot on 21 minutes.

A 25-yard free-kick from Hamlin then whistled over before Keenan made a magnificent one-handed save to keep out a Waterworth shot.

A minute later it looked like Andy Kilmartin would put the Whites into the lead after Waterworth had been fouled but the reliable Kilmartin saw his spot-kick bounce off the cross bar. Keenan and Waterworth continued their duel, Keenan saving the striker's header before the last action of the half. A raking pass from Francis Murphy saw Ryan Catney sprint forward but he had to lunge forward to connect with the pass, the ball going narowly over the top.

The second half saw the Whites continue where they left off but a breakthrough did not look like coming until Martin came off the bench and came in on the blind-side to bury Murphy's cross.

Fellow sub Darren Armour should have added another on 77 minutes after good link-up play between Martin and Waterworth but he fired wide.

Larne suddenly lifted the tempo in the last 12 minutes, Hamlin firing into the arms of Phil Matthews, Colm Keaney scooping another effort over the bar.

The Whites then broke again and 'Man of Match' Keenan made another good stop from a James Bell drive. The ball ran clear, and whilst Keenan saved from Armour following in, he got a nasty blow to the head and had to go off, after treatment, in injury time.

Larne though weren't quite finished and deep in injury time Matthews had to make a good stop to keep out another Hamlin free-kick. The ball was swept back into the middle but Julian Ward under pressure from Kilmartin fired over.

Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

"I think that their keeper had a lot more to do than ours, we had better chances than they had but at the end of the game we were digging a trench for ourselves and we cannot afford to do that.

Jim Hagan - Larne

"After they scored we came back into but we really didn't make their keeper work as hard as we should have done, our final ball wasn't of the quality required."
