Lisburn Distillery Seconds 3 Glenavon Reserves 0 (HT2-0)

Match Report from David Taylor The Line-up

With a shadow first team playing for the reserves, it was no surprise that they took the upper hand early in the game, and created a number of good chances, which went begging.

But the breakthrough came when Dickson was fouled, as he went to shoot, inside the six yard box, and Verner made no mistake from the spot kick. Then Glenavon were really up against it, when McVeigh had a swing at Bell with his boot, in front of the referee, who gave him a straight red.

Although they were on top for the rest of the half the Seconds failed to add to their lead, but just before the break, Thompson sent a cracking cross from the left, and Armour met it at the front post to send a glancing header into the net for a comfortable two nil lead.

The second half was a repeat of the first but only a penalty from Armour, was all that Lisburn Distillery could show for a dominating second half performance.

Manager's Comments

With a team like this out we were expected to win this game and we did so comfortably, although the good football only came in short bursts, it was only a workman-like performance rather than an exceptional one.

This result keeps us joint top of our section with Linfield, with two games each remaining, and providing we can beat Larne at home, then the last game against Linfield should see the eventual winners of our section progress through to the semi-finals of the George Wilson Cup.
