Lisburn Distillery Seconds 3 Linfield Swifts 3 (HT 3-3)

Match Report from David Taylor The LIne-up

With a strong first team look about both teams, Linfield scored in the fourth minute when they opened up the Whites defence and from eight yards out a forward hit his shot at goal, and although Wilton got his hand to it, he only pushed into his own net.

The Whites struck back with a penalty, when Dickson was pushed over in the six-yard box, and Armour made no mistake from the spot. The Blues had the upper hand and scored two more in quick succession, but the Whites refused to lie down, and Dickson pulled a goal back in the fortieth minute. Then a cross into the centre, from Dickson, was fumbled by the keeper, who seemed to push it into his own net, for an equaliser.

The second half saw the Whites take control, but although they had the upper hand, misses from Verner, Armour and McQuillan, allowed the Blues to record their second draw with the Whites in this struggle to go through as winners of Section C of the George Wilson cup. This Section will go to the wire as both teams have only dropped points against each other, so a semi-final place is at stake in our last game against Larne at home on Saturday.

Manager's Comments

A game of two halves, Linfield had the majority of play in the first half, whilst the Whites were the better side in the second, so a draw was probably a fair result. We were poor at the back in the first half but tightened up after the break, with McKeown and Ferguson in command. In the middle of the park, Bell, had a first class game against his old club, and was ably supported by Catney. This win keeps us in with a shout for a semi-final place.
