Match Report

In a line .......Managers' Views

Coleraine had beaten Lisburn Distillery twice in the league last season but the Whites got off to an opening day win thanks to goals from Conor Hagan and Francis Murphy.

There wasn't a lot to write home about in a fairly tame first half.Coleraine fullback Gareth Campbell headed clear whenever John Martin threatened at the back post.Gordon Patton saw his shot defelected over for the visitors in the ninth minute and Andy Kilmartin hit over from a Gareth McKeown cross on 16 minutes

Ryan McCann got booked for a tangle with Gordon Patton on 23 minutes before Davy O'Hare saved from Andrew Waterworth. Darren Cassidy sent a long -range effort over the Whites cross-bar before Martin put a glancing header wide just before the break.

The Whites had a penalty appeal turned down five minutes into the half, Waterworth sprawling to the ground after a tackle by Stuart Clanachan.Referee John McKnight waved play on, ignoring the appeals from Lisburn Distillery players and supporters.

Then on 53 minutes, Conor Hagan put the Whites ahead. As the Coleraine defence pushed up, McCann lofted the ball over them and Hagan came in from the right to flick the ball over O'Hare.

The Whites had a let-off two minutes later when Cassidy fired over from the edge of the box.Hagan then went close again but O'Hare punched his shot over the bar.

The bar then kept out a David Patton header after Philip Matthews had back-tracked brilliantly to push the header onto the cross bar.

Martin volleyed wide before Murphy and Damien McLaughlin had a chance to get on the end of a cross from Gareth McKeown, the ball however was allowed to run out of play.

Matthews then saved a Noel Anderson snap-shot before a great goal from Murphy ended the contest. The ball was passed about on the near touch-line, it was worked inside, Martin tapped the ball back to Murphy who in turn went across the box, and just as he did against Glenavon, he calmly side-footed the ball in.

Stephen Carson shot over on 85 minutes before O'Hare made a good save to keep out another close-range effort from Murphy.

A good start to the new league campaign.

    Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

'Overall, it's great to start the league with a win. We have three points on the table, that's three points more than we had until the fourth week of last season. They were three well deserved points in terms of effort, commitment, hard work and a solid performance.

     Marty Quinn - Coleraine

'The players were disappointed and had given their all and didn't get what they wanted today. We would have settled for a point here today. I think that over the ninety minutes we were as good as Distillery.'
