Match Report

from Terry Mann

In a line .......Managers' Views

Incessant, heavy, rain throughout the entire game made for very difficult playing conditions.

The first half saw little in terms of clear-cut chances, Paul Muir did have to clear though whenever the conditions played their part as Phil Matthews could not hold on to full-back Cormac McArdle's cross.

The second-half was much more open and either side could have won the game, had chances been taken.

Andy Crawford headed wide for Roy Coyle's side but the Whites were very much in it but defender.Paul Muir then had to be helped off on 51 minutes with a nasty leg injury

John Martin went close on 62 minutes before Paul Kirk was once again forced to change things when Andy Kilmartin became the second player to go off through injury (64 minutes).

The Whites had the ball in the net on 69 minutes.A cross from the left was flicked on by skipper Wayne Buchanan, the ball going up and over Newry keeper Rober Robinson. The far-side referee's assistant ruled the goal out however (see photograph above) possibly for offside.

The Whites continued to press, and Robinson made a good reflex save to keep out a deflected 20-yard shot from Gareth McKeown on 72 minutes.

The best chance of the game fell to the home side on 80 minutes.Substitute Gerry Flynn broke down the left, as Matthews came out, the former Coleraine player pushed the ball across the goal but McKeown had tracked back superbly to clear the danger from NI - U21 international Richard Clarke.

On 86 minutes, the Whites could have taken the lead.Substitute Darren Armour won the ball from Newry central defender Paddy McLaughlin and fed it out wide left to Francis Murphy, but the midfielder's shot lack the power to beat Robinson who saved low to his left.

Newry then had a final chance to wrap the game up - Lee Feeney broke into the box from the right but sent his near-post shot well wide of the target.

Paul Kirk was delighted given the conditions and the injuries to Muir and Kilmartin to have taken a good away point.

  Roy Coyle - Newry City

'We didn't hit the target on three occasions, they looked dangerous at set plays, because they have big lads and good delivery. We knew that would be the case and we dealt with it quite well.'

    Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

'Anything that was bad about the game we did it in the first half, but we got it going in the second for a much better performance.'
