Lisburn Distillery Seconds 0 Crusaders Res 1 (HT 0-0)

Match Report from David Taylor The LIne-up

The first half was an evenly contested match where both sides created chances, without really threatening the goals.

The Whites came more into it as the half wore on, but were unable to find the finish and both sides went in at half time scoreless.

The second half saw the Crues create the better chances as they began to dominate and when a long ball from the left reached the far post, McQuillan mis-hit his clearance and allowed an easy finish for the visiting striker.

The Whites had a good chance to equalise when in a scramble, in the goalmouth, Bell had his shot cleared off the line and then Cooling sent in a hard low cross, which unfortunately no home striker could get a touch on. Then another cross from the right saw a good chance sent over the bar by substitute Neill who failed to find the target. Both sides battled hard to score but could not find the required finish, and the Crues progressed through to the final, and the Whites were left to rue missed opportunities.

Manager's Comments

From the start this had the look of a one nil win game, the team that made the first bad mistake would suffer, and so it turned out, when we failed to clear a simple cross, they punished us for it

Although we had chances to equalise, I must admit that the Crusaders team seemed to be more “up for it” than we were, we did not want it enough and senior players must look at their attitude when playing for the “seconds” and remember that they are playing with young players who are supposed to learn from them. I am extremely disappointed as the younger lads had done very well against Linfield, Larne and Glenavon, in previous games to get us to this stage of the competition, one step away from the final. Gutted.
