Match Report

from Terry Mann

In a line .......Managers' Views

Lisburn Distillery fell to their first league defeat at The Oval today. In terms of general football, there wasn't much between the sides early on but the Whites went behind to a Jason Hill goal on 18 minutes.

Phil Matthews, who made a number of good saves throughout, blocked Hill's initial effort, Michael Halliday put the follow-up against the bar before Hill headed home.

The Whites, who did not force Elliott Morris into save in the first half, went in two-down at the break, Halliday firing home after Hill had crossed.

If the Whites were going to get back into the game, they needed a quick response after the break, it didn't happen, nor indeed did it look like happening and the match was over on 50 minutes.

Gary Hamilton broke clear and rounded Matthews before scoring. There was a flurry of yellow cards, before Gareth McKeown made a superb goal-line clearance, heading clear from Darren Lockhart on 59 minutes..

Skipper Wayne Buchanan then escaped with a yellow card before Matthews saved again. Francis Murphy fired over on 65 minutes before we had a number of substitutions. The Whites got a lifeline on 75 minutes whenever referee Stephen Weatherall judged that Hill had fouled Catney, and Darren Armour blasted the spot-kick low into the bottom corner past his former Glentoran colleague Morris.

Michael Ferguson had a couple of opportunities to fire at goal and on 80 minutes Armour's cross just eluded Marty Verner.Had contact been made it might have been a different story, but in the final analysis, the Glens were, easily, deserving winners on the day.

Paul Millar - Glentoran

We can play better but it is a good result against a good team who were tucked in behind us coming into the match''

        Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

'I felt that we played well in patches and maybe had we tucked away a few chances late on after we got the penalty then we could have got something from the game, but that's football."
