Match Report

from Stan Mann

In a line .......Managers' Views

There was liitle to choose between these teams in terms of league positions before this game and it remained that way after this score draw.

There was little action in a low key first half, any threats that were posed either came from defensive misunderstandings or set pieces.

From the latter, the Crues tended to favour a deep ball to the back post and they used this ploy on several occasions, Chris Morrow connecting with these although he didn't threaten Phil Matthews. On 25 minutes Matthews though had to be quickly out to the edge of the box to claim the ball ahead of Ciaran Gargan.

Three minutes later a back-header from Jeff Spiers had Crusaders keeper Neil Armstrong scrambling back to keep the ball in play.

Two minutes before the break Morrow miskicked on the centre of the box after David Rainey had crossed from the right.

On 47 minutes Marty Verner slipped the ball to Francis Murphy but Armstrong dealt comfortably with the curling shot.Darren Armour ran into good space on 52 minutes, but his 25 yard shot was smothered by Armstong.

Gargan then won the ball and passed to Stephen Shaw but his 10 yard cross-goal shot pinged off the base of the post but within seconds the visitors had a free-kick on the angle of the 18 yard box and Shaw fired home at Matthews near post.

Paul Kirk made changes and Michael Feguson fired over on 69 minutes.Rainey then had a shot blocked before Matthews denied Crusaders a second on 83 minutes. He was out to stand up and block Gargan's shot after the Crusaders player had broke clear.

Three minutes later the Whites levelled. A wicked cross from Gareth McKeown saw Andrew Waterworth steam in past his marker and thump the ball in at the near post.

It's still early days, but a look at the table at this stage would suggest there will be little to choose between a number of sides.

        Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

'I am pleased with the result; we were a goal down but we showed character to come back. We remain unbeaten here at home in the league which is good but I don't think that we are firing on all cylinders yet.'

       Stephen Baxter - Crusaders

'Distillery are well marshalled, they have been about the top half of the table now for three or four seasons, they know what they are about, they are a good side. But I felt that we coped particularly well today, we got our game plan organised, we knew what we were about, second half, I thought we were magnificent.'
