Match Report

from Stan Mann

In a line .......Managers' Views

For the second week in succession Lisburn Distillery fell to an early goal, and just had been the case at Solitude a week earlier, it proved a bad blow to the sides' confidence.

Glenn Ferguson's shot came back of the post, rebounded back across goal and Peter Thompson ran in to slot home.More hesitancy at the back post saw the Whites two down on 22 minutes.

A set piece play saw William Murphy head back across the goal, and Ferguson took advantage of more slack marking to hook the ball home.

At two-down, the Whites were forced to push forward, Waterworth had a header straight at Mannus before the Linfield keeper brilliantly tipped over a back header from Whites' skipper Wayne Buchanan.

On 38 minutes a good passing move out from the defence to Catney who sent Martin free down the left ended when the forward hit his cross straight into the arms of Mannus, Verner and Hagan coming in at the back post.

Bar a last minute effort from Verner that was the extent of the Lisburn Distillery attacks in the game and Linfield went into a commanding lead on 40 minutes.A similar move as before, high ball into the box, Murphy headed it across goal and Douglas saw Wilton save his drive. The ball deflected across goal and Thompson ran in unmarked to score his eleventh of the season.

On 45 minutes Hagan was ordered off after kicking out at Jamie Mulgrew after the pair had tangled and fallen over the bye-line.

There was no way back for the Whites and in the second-half the Whites worked hard to keep Linfield from increasing the winning margin.

Wilton made some more saves but could do nothing about a screamer from Mulgrew that flew into the top corner on 72 minutes.

Four nil the end result and another defeat at the hands of Linfield
