Lisburn Distillery Seconds 0 Portadown Res 3 (HT 0-3 )

Match Report from David Taylor The LIne-up

Right from the kick off Portadown were on the attack, and within ten minutes of the start, the Whites found themselves two goals down, when two poorly defended crosses were turned into goals, inside the space of three minutes.

Although the Ports continued their assault on the over-run home defence, they were unable to add to their score until two minutes from the break, when another cross from the right eluded the back four and again we conceded another easy goal to the visitors. The Whites players were only two glad to hear the half time whistle, as the driving wind and rain had been in their faces the whole of the first half.

As luck would have it the wind and rain did not hold, and even when they made a few chances, one a cross from the right, which saw Cooling get onto, a good block on the line prevented us from pulling one back. The other chance fell to McQuillan midway through the second half but he also failed to put it away, and even though they played a little better than the first half, the Ports ran out easy winners in the end.

Manager's Comments

First half we failed to turn up, unlike Portadown who were first to every ball, won all second balls and did not let us have any possession of note. Granted the wind and rain was in our faces but it was no excuse for a poor defensive show, nothing happening in midfield and powder puff stuff up front.

The second half saw a very slight improvement in that we stopped them adding to the score line, but failed to make any impression on a back four that was never really tested. The body language at full time told the story, and they were very glad to see the final whistle, as they trooped off more interested in heading for the hot showers than shaking hands with a better team on the day. To make matters worse, this was the first day this season we have not scored a goal, lets hope we do have a little more enthusiasm for the next game on Thursday night.
