Match Report

Chances galore against an Armagh City side and then bang, the Whites lose the game to an 83rd minute strike.

Marty Verner could have put the Whites ahead on 14 minutes from a John Martin pass, but his lob from just inside the area went over.Gareth McKeown then blocked a shot from a free -kick before the Whites went close inside a few minutes.

On 20 minutes a left foot shot from Martin saw City keeper Gavin Cushley rise one handed to punch the ball out.Cushley and defender Mark Turkington then got in a real tangle on 24 minutes.Francis Murphy nipped in and took the ball wide of the pair but the defender recovered to block the ball for a corner.

The home side had a let off on 35 minutes whenever John Paul Donnelly had the goal at his mercy, but as Phil Mattehws came out, the midfielder sent his shot over the bar.Four minutes later Cushley dived to palm out a James Bell header following a corner.Bell had another shot on 41 minutes but it lacked the power to trouble the keeper and right on the whistle Bell couldn't direct his near post header on target.

Andy Kilmartin could have put the home side in the lead within seconds of the restart, but Cushley made a good save at his near post.On 52 minutes Verner's corner flashed across the goal, Martin inches away from connecting with his head. Murphy had a shot blocked and then substitue Conor Hagan headed Damien McLaughlin's cross wide.

Hagan then dispossessed Mark Gracey but couldn't take advantage, whilst Phil Matthews made a comfortable save (his first of the game) on 73 minutes.

Two minutes earier, John Martin had a penalty appeal turned down after his cross deflected of a player.McLaughlin then beat Cushley but his shot hit the bar on 74 minutes. Cushley saved from the same player on 76 and then he rushed out to clear from Hagan. Verner had a shot blocked and after the keeper couldn't hold a low cross, Stuart Thompson saw his shot headed off the line.

The obvious then happened, Armagh broke, Shane Coney got a cross in when he shouldn't have and Stephen Hyndes coming in the back post tucked the ball home.

Deflating stuff, enough chances to have won this game handsomely and nothing to show for it. It's been the same problem in recent weeks, and once again a failure to take chances and concede a soft goal cost dearly!

     Ronnie Cromie* - Lisburn Distillery

'We got a warning in the first half and we thought we had got away with it, but we should have defended the goal better but the game should have been out of sight by then.'

* Assistant Manager

Gary McKinstry - Armagh City

'I can play matches every week and other teams can be the better teams and if we sneak one-nil wins I will be really, really happy about it.'
