Lisburn Distillery Seconds 6 Larne Olympic 1 (HT 3-1 )

Match Report from David Taylor The LIne-up

The Whites started at a cracking pace and bombarded the Larne defence who were all over the place trying to catch Martin and Waterworth, their pace was causing the back four all kinds of problems, but unfortunately chances went a-begging.

Most of them were squandered, or the woodwork helped Larne resist until the twentieth minute when Waterworth scored the first of his four.

Then a casual piece of defending allowed Larne to equalise with their first serious attempt at goal. This only spurred the home side and further goals from Cooling and Waterworth allowed the Whites to go in, at half time with a comfortable 3-1 lead.

The second half was even more one sided and further goals from John Martin, and two more from Andy Waterworth let the home side run out easy winners, with the visitors having no answer to the quick, sharp incisive football supplied by the home side.

Manager's Comments

What a difference from last week, when we had no engine room and a lack lustre attack, this week the midfield ticked over like a well tuned Rolls, the attack was pacy and sharp and really tore the Larne back four to shreds.

We looked like we were going to score every time we attacked, and a score of eight or nine would not have flattered us, it was nice to relax and watch quality football and finishing. Waterworth was back to scoring form, Martin worked his socks off, and Johnston and Catney in midfield were a joy to watch. This rubbed off on the youngsters and they too showed that they could play as well. Young Chris McCluskey made his debut in goal, and to say that Wilton was not missed, is a credit to him, a good start and looks a good one for the future.
