Lisburn Distillery Seconds 2 Coleraine Res 0 (HT 1-0 )

Match Report from David Taylor The LIne-up

The Whites scored in the first minute of this game, when a neat pass from Cooling to McQuillan, who had drifted in from the left, allowed the latter to set Murphy on his way down the left, and from the corner of the eighteen yard box, he curled a sweet right foot shot into the far corner of the net, with the keeper well beaten.

The Whites continued to press but poor finishing and some good keeping kept the score down to one at half time. First Cooling shot narrowly wide, then Neill broke through to send his shot from the edge of the box high and wide. Magee was unlucky when, from a corner, he saw his downward header cleared off the line with the keeper beaten.

With Murphy, returning from injury, being substituted at half time, it meant a reshuffling of the team to allow Hunter to take his place at full back, but it did not stop the Whites scoring as early as the fifth minute of the second half.

The keeper punched the ball out from a corner from the right, but it only travelled to the edge of the six-yard box, where Esler scored from a delightful overhead kick, his first goal since signing for the Whites. Neill was creating a lot of chances for his forwards, with quality crosses from the right, but unfortunately no one could get on to the end of them, and the score line slightly flattered the visitors who, although they never stopped trying, were outplayed by a better side on the day.

Manager's Comments

This was a fully deserved win, but the margin should have been bigger as we dominated from start to finish. The only sour note was losing James Forsythe, for a second yellow, fifteen minutes from full time. Keeper and back four rarely troubled, midfield dominant, and the return of Brannigan and Murphy, from injury, up front caused quite a few problems for the visitors.

This was our fourth win in a row, lets hope we can keep this run going at Newry on Monday night.
