Match Report

In a line .......Managers' Views

The Whites bounced back after last week's defeat to put three past Ballymena Utd.

The first goal came after only eight minutes from Andy Waterworth who has been in fine form in recent weeks. He fired past Paul Murphy from close range after the United defence had failed to deal with a cross from Francis Murphy.

Darren Fitxgerald also pull one back for the visitors after breaking clear but his shot went wide, as did one from Gareth Scates seconds later.

After that the Whites took control, on 19 minutes Waterworth turned his marker to send a left foot effort just beyond the far post.Murphy fired over on 32 before the Whites forced a succession of corners.A United defender deflected Waterworth's shot over for a corner, and from the resultant one, Darren Armour came in at the near post but couldn't direct the ball on goal

Waterworth then broke clear but keeper Paul Murphy dashed out to block with his legs and then United stunned the Whites by equalising on 39 minutes. A left wing corner was headed on, the Whites defence were at sea and Kevin Kelbie put the ball under Phil Matthews and it was one all at the break.

The first half saw injuries to Paul Brown, Gareth McConaghie and Phil Matthews, the latter the only one to remain on afterwards.

Two minutes after the restart the Whites were ahead - Armour hit a 35 yard shot that the keeper looked to have covered but to everyone's amazement the ball somehow got past him and that was that.

United didn't offer another serious attack whilst the Whites could have added more before and after Waterworth's tenth goal of the season on 78 minutes.

Peter MCann crossed, Francis Murphy unmarked at the back post headed across the goal and Waterworth was quickly in to head the ball home.

The Whites brought on all three subs to run the clock down in the final minutes and the win sees them still very much in the frame for either fourth or fifth spot and the rewards that either could bring.

Paul Kirk - Lisburn Distillery

'Today was a big result for us in terms of getting the three points. We are in the hunt for everything that comes our way, I don't think that there is much between any of us now.'

    Tommy Wright - Ballymena Utd

"We shot ourselves in the foot and it was back to the bad old days for us,We had been defending well and not giving away stupid goals and the three goals were schoolboy stuff."
