Match Report

from Terry Mann

In a line .......Managers' Views

The goal-scoring partnership between Darren Armour and Andy Waterworth continues, as the Whites moved up into fifth place following this victory.

Dungannon started off well, but the Whites then began to push forward and Darren Armour put them ahead on 28 minutes with a fine finish. Waterworth shot from the edge of the box, his shot deflected off a defender and Armour buried his shot beyond Dwayne Nelson and into the back of the net.

The Whites looked comfortable at that stage but once again contributed to their own downfall, failing to clear and Richard Gibson was able to run on and shoot past Phil Matthews on 36 minutes. That strike gave the home side more impetus and they finished the half strongly, but did not add to their tally as the sides went in level at half-time.

Three minutes into the second-half, the Whites took the lead thanks to the quick thinking of Ryan McCann. As the home defence were organising themselves, McCann's quick free-kick sent Neil Alderdice down the flank, he swept the ball into the box and Waterworth came in at the near post to hook it home from eight yards out.

The points looked in the bag on 56 minutes after Waterworth bagged his second.A high ball saw Waterworth win the ball ahead of the outcoming keeper and although Adam McMinn tried to get back to cover, Waterworth was able to fire the ball into the empty net before running off to celebrate with the Whites' supporters behind the goal.

Dungannon got a lifeline on 69 minutes, Alderdice attempted to head a cross behind, but unfortunately for both him and his side the ball went the wrong side of the post and in. Both sides attacked in the final twenty minutes, the Whites creating the more clear cut chances, Nelson making a good save to keep out another effort from Waterworth, but in the end the visitors won 3-2 to move up into fifth place, three points behind Portadown in fourth. It could well be time to start dusting those passports down again!!
