Summary from Peter Cooling

The Under 16s began their League campaign with a game against Sunnyside at Suffolk. After going a goal behind early on they began to play their way back into the game and were rewarded with an equalliser just before half time when a Craig Cooling shot rattled off the crossbar and Chris Adams was on hand to score from the rebound.

Although they dominated for long spells in the second half the Whites were unable to grab a winner, the final score was 1-1. A special mention has to be made to full back Neil Thompson who had an outstanding game.

Summary from Peter Cooling

For the second week in succession the Under 16s conceded a last minute penalty which Lisburn Youth gratefully accepted to win the game 1-0. A series of missed chances and their inability to keep the ball at any stage of the game helped to contribute to what was a lack lustre performance by the young Whites.

Summary from Peter Cooling

The Under 16s battled hard to overcome a very aggressive Lurgan Town side and after a goalless first half took the lead 10 minutes into the second period. A powerful run down the right from the impressive Tommy Roy ended with his cross being hammered home by Craig Cooling. With the Whites now in control it was no surprise when Craig Cooling scored again with an excellent solo effort after good work by Grant Davis.

Once again a good solid performance with the back four of Roy, Armstrong, Morgan and Ennis looking good.

Summary from Peter Cooling

After a disappointing goalless first half the Whites came to life after the break to see off their opponents Midway Utd with a 2-0 victory.

Dan McFadden created the first when he was fouled just outside the box and Daniel Morgan made no mistake with the resulting free kick giving the keeper no chance and indeed it was McFadden himself who sealed the victory with a super solo effort.Once again a solid performance from the back four with Michael Fox and Andrew Cooling working tirelessly in the centre of midfield.

Team: Chris Stewart, Tommy Roy, Ryan Ennis, Dan Morgan, Johnny Armstrong, Neil Thompson, Michael Fox, Andrew Cooling, Johnny Miller, Craig Cooling, Dan McFadden. Subs: (All used) Kyle Stevenson, Johnny Hill, Cain McEvoy, Grant Davis, Dean Smyth.

Summary from Peter Cooling

The Under 16's went into this game very much the underdogs after Newmill's excellent win over Linfield the previous week. However, the Whites fought hard throughout and were very unlucky not to steal the three points when Dan McFadden rattled the crossbar in the dying minutes of the game after a period of Lisburn Distillery pressure.

It was an excellent all round performance by a squad that is developing well.

Team: Dean Smyth, Neil Thompson, Ryan Ennis, Daniel Morgan, Johnny Armstrong, Kyle Stevenson, Andrew Cooling, Michael Fox, Johnny Miller, Craig Cooling, Dan McFadden. Subs: Cain McEvoy, Johnny Hill, Grant Davis, Tommy Roy, Chris Stewart.

Summary from Peter Cooling

The Under 16s made an early exit from the Shield at Barbour on Saturday when they were defeated 4-2 by Glenavon, who dominated the game. An own goal and a late goal from Kyle Stevenson were all the Whites could manage on a day that is best forgotten. Left back Ryan Ennis and late substitute Johnny Hill were the only players that shone on what was a very dull day.

Team: Chris Stewart, Neil Thompson, Ryan Ennis, Danny Morgan, Johnny Armstrong (Grant Davis), Kyle Stevenson, Michael Fox, Andrew Cooling (Chris Adams), Johnny Miller (Johnny Hill), Cain McEvoy (Tommy Roy) Dan McFadden. Sub (not used) Dean Smyth.

Everyone involved at the 16s would like to wish Craig Cooling a speedy recovery after his recent accident in which he broke both his wrists.

Summary from Peter Cooling

Once again Lisburn Distillery's inability to put the ball in the net cost them the game as they were beaten 2-1 by Ballyclare. After going a goal behind midway through the first half they bounced straight back and equalised with a well taken Dan McFadden penalty. From this point the Whites were in control but after missing a series of chances in the second half they allowed Ballyclare to steal a winner in one of their very rare attacks.

Team: Dean Smyth, Andrew Cooling, Ryan Ennis, Dan Morgan, Grant Davis, Chris Adams, Michael Fox, Johnny Miller, Johnny Hill, Dan McFadden, Johnny McIlvenny. Subs: Tommy Roy, Cain McEvoy, Johnny Armstrong, Chris Stewart, Kyle Stevenson.

Summary from Peter Cooling

After a scrappy first ten minutes the Whites began to take control of the game. However after a period of sustained pressure they were caught napping when a Ballymena counter attack ended up in the back of the net after some sloppy defending. Their response though was rapid and within minutes Cain McEvoy had grabbed the equaliser after some excellent play by Johnny McIlvenny down the left flank.

Half - Time 1-1.

The Whites began the second half strongly and it was no surprise when Johnny Armstong got on the end of a McIlvenny corner to beat the keeper with an unstoppable header at the front post. But once again they pushed the self destruct button and allowed Ballymena back into the game with a very soft goal but this week they weren't prepared to settle for second best and Dan McFadden grabbed a deserved winner when he controlled a pinpoint pass from keeper Dean Smyth to beat the onrushing keeper from close range.

Team: Dean Smyth, Dan McGarry, Ryan Ennis, David Hume, Johnny Armstrong, Chris Adams, Michael Fox, Johnny Miller, Johnny McIlvenny, Dan McFadden, Cain McEvoy. Subs: Andrew Cooling, Neil Thompson, Tommy Roy, Grant Davis, Johnny Hill.

Summary from Peter Cooling

After totally dominating the first 25 minutes of the game the Whites somehow turned what promised to be their best performance of the season so far, into a nightmare with them ending up on the wrong side of the 3-1 scoreline. A catologue of missed chances and a severe lack of commitment in the latter stages of the game handed opponents Portadown a very easy three points on the day.

A couple of elementary defensive errors which led to opponents Crusaders scoring on both occasions, and once again their inability to put the ball in the net at the other end, saw the Whites beaten 2-0. Summary from Peter Cooling

Christmas arrived early for opponents Glenavon in the shape of four goals which they gratefully accepted to go on and win the game by four goals to nil.

With due respect to Glenavon, the result somewhat flattered them in a game, that contrary to what the result read, was evenly contested throughout.
Tommy Roy, David Hume, Ryan Ennis Andrew Cooling and debutant Brian Davey were undoubtedly the pick of the bunch for the Whites.

Summary from Peter Cooling

A series of fine saves by the Portadown goalkeeper combined with some unbelieveable misses once again deprived the Whites of what should have been a handsome victory . Instead they had to settle for a 0-0 draw which in truth was a vast improvement to the corressponding fixture three weeks ago which ended in a 3-1 defeat. Although seldom troubled Whites keeper Chris Stewart produced two stunning saves one in each half.

The U16s finally returned to their winning ways with a comphrehensive 3-1 victory over Ballymena. A good all round performance was capped with goals by Brian Davey, Michael Fox and Dan McFadden and an excellent performance by Jonny Miller at left back. The only thing that marred the day was a horrible facial injury picked up by Craig Cooling whilst winning the penalty for the first goal which required him having fourteen stitches inserted in the wound.

A Dan McFadden hat-trick, a brace from Cian McEvoy and one from Michael Fox helped the Whites defeat Sunnyside 6-0 at Barbour. This was the result that the Whites have been threatening to hit for many weeks in what was once again an excellent all round team performance with all the 16 players used playing their part.

Summary from Peter Cooling

Two identical defensive errors in a five minute spell in the second half cost the Whites this game. Even opponents Midway Utd appeared stunned at the ease with which they stole the game after being totally outplayed by a slick moving Distillery side for the majority of the game. The first half somehow ended 0-0 with Whites keeper Chris Stewart not having one save to make.
Brian Davey put the Whites ahead ten minutes into the second with a clever free kick from twenty yards and they appeared to be on their way to a well deserved victory but shortly afterwards the two shambolic errors occurred and try as they did the Whites were unable to retrieve a self inflicted situation.

Summary from Peter Cooling

The U16s defeated Lisburn Youth at Fullerton Park on Saturday in what was a very entertaining game.

The Whites went ahead midway through the first half when Chris Adams was on hand to put the finishing touch to a fine move. This was followed five minutes later with a 30-yard strike from Dan McFadden which gave the Lisburn Youth keeper no chance as it rifled into the top corner of the net.

The second half began with the Whites well on top but after a short spell of pressure by the opposition they conceded a goal. After missing several gilt edge chances they were desperately unlucky to concede again in the last minute of normal time to take the game to extra time. With neither team unable to break the deadlock the game was decided on penalties with the Whites emerging as worthy winners to face Crusaders in the next round. Penalty scorers were Ryan Ennis, Brian Davey, Tommy Roy, Andrew Cooling, Jonny Armstrong, Michael Fox and Cain McEvoy with goalkeeper Dean Smyth pulling off three superb saves.

Summary from Peter Cooling

The 16s defeated Ballyclare Comrades by three goals to one at Suffolk on Saturday. Although the pitch was in a terrible state the young Whites still managed to play some wonderful football creating chance after chance in a first half where the opposition were restricted to only one shot on goal. Michael Foster put the Whites ahead shortly before half time when he hammered the ball into the roof of the net.

Half Time 1-0

The second half began with the Whites pressing hard for a second and it wasn't long coming when Tommy Roy's header was saved by the goalkeeper and the same player was on hand to hammer home the rebound.

A brief lapse of concentration allowed Ballyclare to pull back what was a very soft goal but Johnny Millar secured the three points when his long looping shot from 30 yards caught the keeper napping.

Once again an excellent all round performance.

Report from Peter Cooling

After missing two open goals in the first five minutes the day began to get steadily worse for an Under 16 side that looked totally out of sorts. With passes going astray coupled with a total lack of ideas it came as no shock when Banbridge took the lead shortly before half time. The goal gave Banbridge a real boost of confidence and it was they that finshed the half looking the stronger side.

The second half began with the Whites having the strong wind in their backs but they struggled to take advantage of this with too many passes being overhit and all the instuctions of keeping the ball into feet appearing to have gone right over their heads. On one rare assault on the Banbridge goal Patrick Docherty found space in the box and hammered the ball home from six yards to equalise.
However rather than spurring the Whites on to victory the goal had an adverse effect and after a period of Banbridge pressure they scored a deserved late winner.

This was a poor performance on a day when we lacked composure on the ball all round the pitch. We failled to control the game and in consequence allowed ourselves to be controlled by the opposition for long spells. Well done Banbridge.

Report from Peter Cooling

The Whites came out on top in this hard fought quarter-final battle with Crusaders at Ballymacoss on Saturday. They took the lead after ten minutes when Andy Cooling slid the ball through to Ryan Ennis who finished clinically from six yards.

After surviving a near miss at the other end which required a superb save from Chris Stewart the Whites were unlucky not to score again when Brian Davey went on a run from the halfway line only to see his shot parried by the Crusaders goalkeeper and Johnny Hill went close from the follow up.Tommy Roy also went close with a fierce low drive which just went inches wide.

Half Time 1-0

The second half continued very much like the first with the Whites always looking the most likely team to score but disaster struck with only one minute remaining when Crusaders somehow managed to bundle the ball over the goal line for a late equalliser to take the game to extra time.
With no further goals scored in extra time both teams braced themselves for the dreaded penalties in which the Whites came out on top. Brian Davey, Michael Foster, Dan McFadden and Craig Cooling all hit the target with goalkeeper Chris Stewart making two wonderful saves.

The Under 16s game against Crusaders was abandoned five minutes into the second half following a bad knee injury sustained by our centre back David Hume. David was taken to hospital with suspected ligament damage but due to heavy swelling around the knee the x-rays taken were inconclusive and he will return next week for further x-rays.

.
Everyone wishes David a speedy recovery and we all hope to see him back playing again very soon.

Report from Peter Cooling

The Whites finished worthy 2-0 winners in their game with Glentoran at Suffolk. Patrick Doherty put them ahead midway through the first half after good work by his strike partner Brian Davey. The Whites continued to press but were unable to add to their goal tally before half time.

The second half began with the Whites once again in the ascendancy, creating lots of chances and restricting Glentoran to a few long range efforts on goal which goalkeeper Dean Smyth was able to deal with comfortably. After several chances had been spurned Brian Davey sealed the victory when he worked a one - two with Jonny McIlvenny to coolly finish from six yards.

This was a deserved victory in which everyone worked hard together. We were composed when we had possession and worked hard to prevent the opposition settling on the ball but most importantly we enjoyed the game. Well done lads.

Report from Peter Cooling

The unpredictable U16s found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-1 thrashing by League leaders Linfield at a cold and wet Ballymacoss on Saturday.Linfield controlled the game from start to finish and thoroughly deserved their victory. A late consolation goal from Johnny Hill was the only time in the whole game that the Linfield goalkeeper was troubled.

On the day we were totally outclassed by a very good Linfield side. It was disappointing on several occasions throughout the game to see Lisburn Distillery players openly blaming their team mates to cover up for their own deficiencies, in contrast to last week were we were very much together as a unit.
Along with our lack of imagination and our failure to compete, this was a huge contributory factor to our downfall on the day.
Overall Johnny Armstrong (Silky) was by far our best player. He was composed on the ball and battled hard against a super Linfield frontline.

The Under 16s somehow managed to turn what should have been a comfortable win into a 2-2 draw against Lurgan Town. Leading 2-0 with three quarters of the game gone they simply surrendered their lead following what can only be described as two shambolic pieces of defending. This unfortunately marred what had up to that point been an excellent display by the young Whites. Johnny McIlvenny scored both the goals.

Although they totally dominated the game the U16s once again found themselves on the wrong side of the 2-0 final score-line. Although they created numerous chances throughout the game the Whites were unable to find the net and found themselves caught by two sucker punches late on.

Johnny Hill was once again outstanding on the right while the two front men Brian Davey and Johnny McIlvenny combined well to create many chances but unfortunately neither of them could score on the night. At the other end Craig Cooling stepped into centre back in the abscence of Johnny Armstrong and immediately formed a solid partnership with Michael Foster who also had an excellent game.

Report from Peter Cooling

On Wednesday night following several personnel changes the Whites took to the field to face a full strength Linfield side and showed that on their day they are a match for any team in their League.

They battled hard throughout and were unlucky not to go in at the break ahead. With both teams battling for supremacy in the second half the Blues created a couple of chances but found Whites' goalkeeper Dean Smyth in superb form. At the other end the Whites also went close. At this point it looked as though the game was going to end scoreless but with five minutes remaining Linfield took the lead. However the Whites weren't prepared to accept defeat and grabbed a late equalliser when Brian Davey fired home from the penalty spot.

Report from Peter Cooling

The Under 16s drew 1-1 with Loughgall in a game which they should have won quite comfortably. A plethora of missed chances sent Loughgall home not believing their luck. Dan McFadden scored for the Whites.
