Sean
is hero for Whites
LISBURN
Distillery kept their resurgence going with this deserved win
over Portadown this afternoon.
Ronnie
McFall's side had their chances but Sean Armstrong's strike on
43 minutes was the difference between the sides.
Clear
cut chances were at a premium early on in this game, on 13 minutes
a promising move by the Whites was broken down when Philip Craig
headed clear as Francis Murphy waited to pounce at the back post.
A
minute later, a surging run by Richard Clarke resulted in a corner
and Marc McCann saw his shot from the resultant corner blocked.
The
Ports were dominating things but Philip Matthews was rarely threatened
despite their possession.
Each
side then had a chance inside the space of two minutes; in the
25th minute, Murphy fired wide before McCann had a great chance
for the visitors.
Free
inside the area, he sent his shot straight at Matthews and the
Whites keeper saved well parrying the ball before it was cleared.
On
36 minutes, only a excellent double save from David Miskelly kept
the Whites out.
He
was smartly down to keep out Ryan McCann's 16-yard ground shot
and he reacted quickly to save Arm strong's follow up effort from
a few yards out.
It
was Armstrong who put the Whites ahead on 43 minutes.
McCann's
initial effort went through a ruck of players, Darren Armour saw
his shot crash off the post and Armstrong followed up to fire
in the rebound.
The
Whites almost added to their lead on the hour mark, Chris Coffey's
shot deflected into the path of Armstrong but under pres-sure
from John Convery the ball went wide.
On
62 minutes Convery lost out to Armour - he dragged the ball back
to Murphy and he sidefooted his shot inches over.
A
minute later Miskelly did well to keep out an Armour shot and
although Dickson headed the ball back across goal there was no
one there to take advantage.
The
Whites almost gifted Por-tadown an equaliser on 77 min-utes, Gareth
McKeown headed back across his own goal and Mc-Cann, all alone,
eight yards out, vollied over the bar.
In
a rousing last 10 minutes, Kyle Neill's corner deflected off a
head and then off the post, the ball was swept in and Matthews
made a super one handed save to keep out Convery's shot.
Two
minutes from time Matthews again saved well from Wesley Boyle
and a minute from normal time Kyle Neill kicked Armour's goalbound
shot off the line in what was a frantic finish.
