Callaghan
hands points to Whites
HONOURS
were shared at the Showgrounds on a day not perfectly suited for
any type of flowing football.
A wind
assisted strike by Limavady goalkeeper Dwayne Nelson and an own
goal by Aaron Callaghan meant the points were shared.
The
visitors had the first real chance of the game when a mix-up in
the Limavady defence pre-sented Frances Murphy with a shot on goal
but Liam Cooley was on hand to clear the ball away.
The
home side's first oppor-tunity came in the 30th minute when a great
run by Ryan Semple saw him beat three defenders but unfortunately
his shot didn't match the run and Phillip Matthews easily saved.
Then
Limavady took the lead in bizarre circumstances.
A long
clearance by their goal-keeper Dwayne Nelson bounced in front of
Matthews and over his head into the net.
Half-time:
Limavady 1 Distillery 0.
Ten
minutes into the second half Limavady almost doubled their lead
when Mark Magennis struck the crossbar with a pow-erful free kick
with Matthews well beaten.
With
15 minutes left Magennis again beat his marker and laid the ball
off to Mark McDaid but his powerful shot sailed over the cross bar.
In
the 81st minute Distillery grabbed a barely deserved the equaliser
when Aaron Callaghan turned the ball into his own net from Damien
McLoughlin's cross.
The
match ended in controversy and in stoppage time Distillery lost
two men to red cards.
Gareth
McKeown was sent off for an off the ball incident and Conor Hagan
followed him down the tunnel for a two footed challenge.
