McLaughlin's
early strike is enough
LISBURN
Distillery extended their unbeaten league run to six games with
this 1-0 victory over pointless Ards.
The
Whites got off to a flying start with a goal in the second minute.
John
Martin pushed the ball wide to Francis Murphy and Damien McLaughlin
dove in at the back post to head in.
Ten
minutes later Lisburn Dis-tillery keeper Michael Dougher-ty was
at full stretch to keep out a curling 20 yard effort from Andy Waterworth.
Ards
should have scored from the resultant corner but Avvn Jephcott,
unmarked, could only send his header straight into the arms of Dougherty.
The
visitors continued to at-tack and on 18 minutes Water-worth was
inches wide with a low 25 yard drive before Jephcott then saw his
shot again go straight to Dougherty.
On
25 minutes McLaughlin fired over following a lay back by Martin,
then at the other end Jephcott's cross dropped the wrong side of
the bar.
Half
time: Lisburn Distillery 1 Ards 0.
On
46 minutes Ian Lester made a great save to keep out a 25 yard drive
from McLaughlin.
George
Neill's side though continued to attack but the Whites then went
close again.
Brian
Adair made a great in-terception to head clear from Darren Armour,
Lester then made another fine stop to keep out Sean Armstrong's
shot and from the corner substitute Brian Hill cleared McLaughlin's
head-er off the goal line.
That
was all the action until the 81st minute when Ards looked to be
in for an equaliser.
Marty
Hunter chested down a cross from Ryan Davidson but the ball ran
away from him and Dougherty was down to save at the midfielders
feet.
Two
minutes later Jephcott blazed wide from the edge of the area and
that was the closest Ards came to an equaliser.
