Martin seals win as Whites cruise

Lisburn Distillery easily booked their place in the next round of the Nationwide Irish Cup after they easily brushed past a disappointing Institute side.

The visitors controlled the game from start to finish and could have won by a bigger margin much to boss Paul Kirk's delight.

The visitors started on the front foot and went close after just 10 minutes following a swift counter attack.

Speedy striker John Martin latched onto Gareth McKeown's through ball before sending in a delivery from the right which found striker Darren Armour but his glancing header at the near post hit the side netting.
Armour however wasn't to be denied as he broke the deadlock two minutes later.

The striker twisted and turned to create himself some space before firing low from 12 yards into John Connolly's body right hand corner.

Institute's miserable day continued when centre back David Ogilvy had to be replaced by Martin Smyth after picking up an early knock.

And the Whites doubled their advantage in the 29th minute in spectacular fashion when Ray Catneymade no mistake, blasting home from the edge of the area after McCann's initial free-kick was only partially cleared.

Half-time: Institute 0 Lisburn Distillery 2

After a terrible first half Institute started the second half slightly better and went close to pulling one back in the 55th minute. Declan Diven and Gareth Mullan combined with the latter blazing over.

Matthews came to his side's rescue five minutes later when he easily saved Tommy McCallion's drive.

The Institute skipper was quite literally in the thick of the action in the 67th minute when he was rightfully shown a straight red card for elbowing Ryan McCann.

To their credit the ten men pulled one back in the 72nd minute when new signing Paddy McLaughlin powerfully headed home Darren McCready's corner.
Their come back was short lived as Distillery deservedly scored a third in the 77th minute when Francis Murphy's left wing cross found John Martin at the back post and his volley flew in.
