Richard
takes Kerr of Glens
Match
Report:
The
first real chance of the game came in the fifteenth minute when
McQuillan broke down the left and sent in a wicked low cross,
which eluded both Mc Gaharan and Kerr to drift out for a bye ball.
This was the start of end-to-end attacking, during which both
keepers had to show their mettle, with good saves from promising
shots on target. The Whites took the lead, on the half hour mark,
when a corner from the right by McGaharan, was duly despatched
into the top corner of the Glens goal by the head of Kerr, who
out jumped the defenders for a well deserved goal. This saw the
Glens pile on the pressure and Wilton superbly pushed a shot from
an opposing forward over the bar, for a fruitless corner. The
Whites were unlucky not to increase their lead, when Johnston
broke through from the half way line, only to push the ball too
far when lining up for a shot. Both McGaharan and Brannigan had
shots blocked by last ditch defending as the Whites finished the
first half in top gear.
The
second half saw both teams continue their attacking, the Glens
looking for an equaliser, and the Whites trying to increase their
lead, and again Wilton brought off a fine save as the Glens threatened
his goal. The Whites also had their chances, thanks to good work
in midfield by both Brannigan and Johnston. Then with eighteen
minutes left the Whites increased their lead, when Brannigan put
McQuillan away on the left and from his deep cross, to the back
post, Kerr rose majestically to head home his second of the day
to put the game beyond the Glens reach. The opposition almost
pulled one back when, with five minutes left, a scramble in the
goal mouth resulted in Wilton saving at the feet of an opposition
forward.

Comments
This
was a game the Whites deserved to win, a double over the Glens
after defeating them 2-1 at the Oval, and was an all round team
effort, good goalkeeping, solid defending, good midfield play
and a front two that were a handful all afternoon. When the Whites
have their full strength team out they are a match for any team
in the league, and should fear no one as they strive to climb
up the table. Every player was committed to winning this game
and should be very proud of themselves they are a credit to work
with.
