Bond
sealed and delivered

Report
The
Whites, who had no game last week, started brightly and played
some nice flowing football without creating any clear cut chances
for themselves, most of the attacks petering out with poor final
balls. In the twenty-fifth minute another good opening was crafted
by the midfield, but again the final pass through to Stewart was
just too strong, and the home keeper collected comfortably. Both
sides had half chances after that but failed to convert any of
them into goals and they went in on equal terms at half time.
The
second half was only two minutes old when disaster struck the
home keeper, a back pass to him on the edge of his own eighteen,
and with no one in close proximity, saw him attempt to hack the
ball clear, but for some reason he kicked the ground behind the
ball, which rolled out to Bond and he calmly rounded the keeper
who was lying injured, and stroked the ball from 12 yards out
into an empty goal. This spurred the Whites on and they laid siege
to the home defence, but near misses from Stewart and Bond was
all they had to show for their efforts. In the end they had to
thank keeper Wilton for making two class saves, toward the end
of the game, as the home team pushed for an equaliser.

A
hard place to go to and get a win, so this was a hard grafted
performance, played on a poor football surface, and was all the
more pleasing as there was not a first teamer in our squad (all
twenty years of age and under). David Wilton again kept us in
the game when required, although he was rarely troubled in the
first half, he kept his concentration, and when called upon performed
to his usual high standards. The back four were under a lot of
pressure in the final twenty minutes but were determined to give
nothing away, and the midfield having played very well in the
first half, lost it a little in the final stages. Gary Stewart
playing on his own up front worked tirelessly, and with a little
luck could have snatched that second goal we sorely needed.
