310809 - “The new season is here”

The pre-season friendlies have been and gone, the stressful background work and the endless phone calls are finally coming to an end. Almost 200 tracksuits have been handed out along with more paperwork than we ever thought existed! The oranges have been sliced and firmly put in the tupperware box- yes, the new season is here!

Lisburn Distillery Youth open their campaign this Saturday (05th September) with a tough opener; away to Ballymena in Section A of the Irish Youth League, whilst our six Academy teams make their competitive debuts in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League.

The following week on September 12th our Mini Soccer season begins, where players as young as seven will be putting on the famous “Whites” kit for their first time.

Academy Co-Ordinator Andy Stevenson commented; “What we achieved in little over a year’s time is nothing short of phenomenal. It just shows what can be done when people pull together and work their socks off.”

Andy is preparing for his first full season as Academy Co-Ordinator at the Lisburn Distillery Academy, and highlights that turning the Academy from a 4 team set-up to a 7 team set up, as well as our influx of new mini-soccer teams and players has been a huge effort.

"With the quality of our new and existing players and perhaps more importantly our coaches and staff we are looking forward to a fantastic season, but this is a long term project.” he added. “We really are building for the future, but we have to be build on solid foundations: great coaching where the players welfare is paramount.”

We'll keep you up to date both on-line and through the “WHITES” matchday programme as to how our season begins – stay tuned in.

010909 - Lisburn Distillery seeks Stars of the Future

Lisburn Distillery have been very busy over the summer period expanding their Youth Academy from seven teams to ten teams for the incoming season. The club provides quality coaching and Saturday morning football for children from 7 years of age right through to Under 18 and on to Senior Football. Pictured below are two of the new teams formed this year from Open Days the club held at Grove Activity Centre, Lisburn, in June. Children wishing to join the Academy for the incoming season should contact Colin Hamill on 07792 629808 for further details.

010909 - New Faces

The close season has witnessed a host of new faces at Lisburn Distillery and our Academy would also like to extend a warm welcome to our latest additions to the coaching staff.

First of all we welcome ex-Glentoran striker Michael Henderson and also Kevin McClory who have joined our Under 13 team to work alongside David Irwin and hope to improve on an impressive season last time round in the
South Belfast League.

We are also delighted to have secured the services of Co.Down Rangers manager
Paul Fielding who as well as running his team in the Amateur League has agreed to come on board as the Academy’s Goalkeeping coach to share his expertise.

We would also like to extend a big thank you to Peter Cooling, who recently stepped down from manager of our Under 17s but is no doubt still to be a familiar face at New Grosvenor with his son Mark playing in the first team.

Martin Walsh and Bill Ramsey
have taken over the reins at Under 17 level as they aim to provide our Youth and Seconds teams with a pool of new players over the coming seasons.

Finally, Stevie Nutt has stepped down from his coaching role within the Academy and takes up the newly created post of Community Relations Officer in the Academy as we continue to create and develop new opportunities both inside and outside the club. Stevie's efforts both on and off the pitch last season have been key to our success.

Weekend Round Up: Friday/Saturday 18th & 19th September

Lisburn Distillery’s Youth Team moved to the top of the Irish Youth League Section A last Friday night with an excellent 2-1 away victory against Dungannon Swifts to make it three wins out of three so far this season.

Another team sitting top of the table is our new Under 15s team who also made it three on the spin with a 1-0 win over North Belfast.

All our Lisburn League teams have started brightly with our Under 13s and Under 16s both still unbeaten with seven points from a possible nine in their respective age groups; both have only conceded a single goal. The Under 13s drew 0-0 with a strong Ridgeway Rovers outfit while our Under 16s recorded an impressive 3-0 win over Loughall.

Six second half goals saw the Under 12s come from behind to defeat Seagoe 7-3 in the weekend’s most entertaining game, whilst the Under 11s put in a good first half performance before Ridgeway Rovers ran out eventual winners. The Under 17s continued to find their feet with an end to end 2-2 draw with Mid-Ulster outfit Tandragee. With four Mini Soccer teams also playing over the weekend, Saturday mornings have never been busier. Maybe if you’re free one Saturday morning why not come down and see the ‘Wee Whites’ in action.

Weekend Round Up: Saturday 03rd October 2009
Saturday provided a break from the norm as all our Lisburn League teams played in the Lisburn League’s Shield Competition First Round. Four of our six teams have made it into the Quarter-finals whilst the Under 12s and Under 17s bowed out, the U12s losing 3-2 against Sunnyside and the U17s failing to get the better of Linfield, losing 4-0.
The Under 11s had a great 4-1 win over Ballyclare Comrades, whilst the under 13s ran out 9-0 victors over local rivals Lisburn Wanderers. The Under 15s made it five wins from five games with a 7-0 win over Dromara and the Under 16s, coached by Sam Allen and Richard Evans, remain unbeaten following a comfortable 4-0 win over Greenisland and progressed safely into the next round. Our mini soccer teams also enjoyed some fantastic performances this morning and special word goes to our 2002 team coached by Brian Hamill and Colin Higginson. Well done to all the “Wee Whites” this weekend.

Weekend Round Up: Saturday 10/11th October 2009
Another action packed weekend as the “Wee Whites” returned to League action, after last Saturday’s Shield games, in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League.  The Under 17s recorded the first win of the day with an 11-0 win over Lower Maze Youth; Whites striker Ben Armstrong scoring 7 goals in this game (including a first half double hat-trick). In the other early kick-offs, a goal from Jason Tumilson earned the Under 12s a point in their 1-1 draw with Ballymena United, while the Under 11s lost to Ballymena United 8-1.
The Under 15s continue to find the magic formula, recording their sixth win in six games with a 2-0 victory over Lurgan Town. Martin McDade’s team face a top of the table clash against Shankill Juniors next week with both teams on 15 points so far this season. The Under 13s and Under 16s both still remain unbeaten in the league as the Under 13s drew 2-2 with Banbridge and the Under 16s recorded their fifth win in a row with a 3-1 victory over Newhill; Aaron Healey was on the score-sheet again for the “Wee Whites” and goalkeeper Ryan McBride saving a late penalty. A late equaliser from Daniel Kelly earned the Youth Team a 1-1 draw at Glenavon to move us on to double figures in points already this season.
A big well done however goes to Arty Storey and Colin Moore for their 2001s team’s great display against Linfield. The team was also one of only four selected earlier this week to represent the CND (Castlereagh and North Down) IFA Mini Soccer League at a festival day arranged in the Maiden City this Sunday against four teams from the Derry and District Mini Soccer Centre. We hope the players, parents and coaches enjoy their trip to the North West on Sunday.
The futures bright, the futures White!

Weekend Round Up 17th/18th October 2009
Saturday morning’s two early kick-offs produced wins for the U17s and the U16s. The U17s won 2-1 against Newry City with goals from Ben Armstrong and Tyler Norwood while the U16s remain unbeaten after six league games, winning 3-1 against Shankill Juniors with goals from Curtis McCaughey, Ryan Smith and Scott Larmour.

In the top two clash in the Lisburn League Under 15 section, the Whites came from 2-0 down to record a 2-2 draw with Shankill to remain level on points and in second place only on goal difference. Nathan Lavery fired in to start the Whites’ comeback before Matthew Geddis levelled the scores; full-back Shane Graham had earlier cleared off the line to keep Lisburn Distillery in the game.
In the other late kick-offs, the Under 13s drew 1-1 with Dromara to extend their own unbeaten run, while the Under 12s and Under 11s both lost to Banbridge, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.
And finally, despite two goals from Craig Patterson, Lisburn Distillery’s Youth Team lost out to a late winner from Donegal Celtic who took all three points with a 3-2 victory in Section A of the IFA Youth League.
Well done to all our teams this weekend who faced their hardest set of fixtures so far this season.

Weekend Round Up 24th/25th October 2009

With the Youth Team enjoying a rare Saturday off, all our games in the Lisburn League went ahead despite the weather playing havoc at a couple of venues in particular.

The Under 15s went top of their division on goal difference after a comfortable 8-0 win over Dromara: Nathan Lavery scoring a hat trick along the way for the “Wee Whites”. The Under 15s are now joint top with Loughall on 19 points from seven games.

Ryan Smith and Stephen Boyd netted for the Under 16s as they ran out 2-0 winners over Ards Youth, whilst the Under 17s lost 2-0 to Shankill Juniors.

Goals from Brett Conville (2) and Corey Geddis secured a 3-1 win over Greenisland for the Under 11s with keeper Daniel Kerr
in fine form for Lisburn Distillery. In the Under 12 section, special mention goes to defender Andrew Girvin who played the entire game in goal due to Rhys Clougherty being injured (we wish him a speedy recovery) The team went on to lose 4-3 to a late goal after goals from Callum Dougan (2) and captain Shane McCartan. Declan Curran also made his first start of the season after being out for several weeks with injury. Finally, the Under 13s capped another good performance with a 4-1 over Greenisland, with captain Stephen Grant leading by example from the heart of the Whites’ defence.

Academy Chairman Ged Irwin commented 'Its great to see all our teams making good starts to the season at all the different age groups. This is only our first season in the Lisburn League for 5 of the 6 teams so its been a very steep learning curve at the start for a lot of the staff and the coaches.' Ged also added that ' The interest in the Academy from supporters and other people both inside and outside Lisburn Distillery FC is really encouraging'

281009 – Anti-racism workshop
The Lisburn Distillery Youth Academy is facilitating an anti-racism workshop which is being run by the IFA for all players from the U11s through to the U17s ( boys’ and girls’ teams ) and all coaching staff.
The workshop will be  held in the Social Club at New Grosvenor, tomorrow night, Thursday 29th October 2009  7:00pm - 8:30pm.
The Academy and Steven Nutt, Academy Community Relations Officer, encourage all players and coaches to participate in the workshop.
Weekend Round Up -  31st October
“Six of the Best” as Wee Whites record first ever Lisburn League landmark
Less than two months into the new Lisburn League season, the Wee Whites recorded a perfect day as all six sides won their games on Saturday morning.
In the early kick off, the Under 17s got off to a great start with a 1-0 victory over Hillsborugh Boys with a Dylan Rogers strike separating the two sides.  Curtis McCaughey, Mikey Withers and Ryan Smith all scored second-half goals for the Under 16s as they picked up three points against Ballyclare Comrades, running out 3-0 winners.  The Under 15s made it ten wins from ten games so far this season with a 3-1 win over Glentoran. The first goal came courtesy of an own goal after a Glentoran defender was put under pressure from James Singleton, the second courtesy of Nathan Lavery who netted after great link up play with Matty Geddis; James McDade hammered home the third goal from close range after an initial shot was parried at the near post.
The goals continued as the Under 13s won 7-2 against Hillsborough Boys: goals from winger Carter Livingstone (2) Matthew Hunter (2) Matthew Gibson, Michael McClory and midfield maestro Ben White wrapped up another impressive performance for Michael Henderson’s team. Simon Wragg’s Under 12 team won 4-2 against Hillsborough Boys but will feel they should have taken more of their chances in front of goal. Despite that, four first half goals from Callum Dougan, Shane McCartan, Jason Tumilson and another own goal set the Wee Whites well on their way.
Finally, the Under 11s played some of their best football so far this season and ran out 5-1 winners against Hillsborough Boys at Suffolk. Some fantastic passing and counter -attacking was rightly rewarded with goals for Tyler Stone, Tom Ryan, Corey Geddis, Reece Morton and Matty Fegan.
Sadly our chances of a magnificent seven were dashed by the weather as only ten minutes into the second-half, the Lisburn Distillery Youth Team’s game was abandoned at Ballymacoss. The Whites were 4-1 up at this stage with goals from Daniel Kelly, Craig Paterson and Ross Thompson (2) before a heavy downpour left the referee with no option but to take both teams off. This means that unfortunately goal-scorers and the result will not stand and the game will be re-scheduled for a later date. However, the wait will not be long as the Youth Team travel to Newry City Wanderers on Tuesday night keen to continue where they had left off today against Portadown.
Well done to everyone on a fantastic weekend’s results.
We now await the Lisburn League’s November’s fixtures with much enthusiasm when they are released on Monday night. (2nd November)

011109 - Update on the IFA Anti-Racism Workshop

Paul Kalla provides an update following last Thursday’s successful workshop at New Grosvenor.

“Mr David White visited Lisburn Distillery FC to present an IFA sponsored Anti-Racism Workshop to children from ages eleven years old to eighteen on Thursday, 29th October 2009. David presented this particularly sensitive subject in his usual entertaining way. He introduced the children to the issue of racial discrimination through highly amusing group work activities culminating in the hard message that Racial Discrimination is something that should not be accepted in football. David shared some of his own personal stories which he used to great effect in reaching out to his audience of children, coaching staff and parents.

"Discrimination, whether it be Racial, Sectarian, Gender or Disability based is a social evil and should not be allowed to cross the line into local soccer. It is essential that the IFA continue to sponsor events like Anti-Racism Workshops and empower people like David White to carry the message that football in Northern Ireland is all about integration, acceptance and equality for all. David was an inspiration and made his audience sit up and take notice as he relayed some of his own personal experiences of racial prejudice on the streets of Northern Ireland. The Workshop was educational. It was a statement that Northern Ireland football is actively standing united against racism and for that, the IFA should be congratulated for sponsoring this Workshop because it was of great benefit to all who attended.

I would also like to sincerely thank a number of individuals for their supporting work in the area of Community Relations within the Academy; in particular Mr Ged Irwin, Academy Chairman, Mr Andy Stevenson Academy Co-ordinator and Mr Stevie Nutt Lisburn Distillery FC Assistant Community Relations Officer.

Weekend Round Up - Saturday 7th November 2009
With all our teams in the morning’s late kick-offs in the Lisburn League the Under 11s were first to kick off at Billy Neill Pitches to face league leaders Ridgeway in the Shield quarter finals. The “Wee Whites” gave everything they had but despite goals from Matty Fegan and Brett Conville, Ridgeway proved too strong and ran out 6-2 winners.
Also in quarter-final action, the Under 13s fell to a 2-0 defeat at Ballymacoss at the hands of their own league leaders, Sunnyside, who top the league with a 100% record. It took a second half penalty to break the deadlock before a late second goal as the Whites piled forward in search of an equaliser.
There was better news from Wallace Park as the Under 15s produced a goal feast and progressed to the semi-finals, beating local rivals Lisburn Wanderers 10 (ten) -0. There was a hat-trick for James McDade, and a brace from midfielder Jordan Gibson while Shane Graham, James Singleton, Nathan Lavery, Michael Fegan and Michael Tolan all got in on the action with a goal each. They now play Hillsborough Boys in the forthcoming semi-final.
Sam Allen and Richard Evans’ Under 16 Team go from strength to strength and booked their own place in the semi-finals against table toppers Ballymena United after going through against Banbridge Town 3-1 at Barbour. Ryan Harron, Aaron Healey and Clark Hainon all scoring for the Whites.

The Under 17s and Under 12s were in league action this morning with the U17s game v Lisburn Youth being abandoned shortly into the second half after a serious knee injury to Whites player Aaron Crossen. We wish him a very speedy recovery. The Under 12s lost to Lower Maze FC at Glenmore 4-1 with winger Jason Tumilson firing home a consolation goal.
It’s also only fair we give a special mention to Matthew Scullions Under 10 (2000s) Mini-Soccer team who enjoyed their game with Irish League rivals Cliftonville. Well done to goal-scorers Sean (2), Jonathan and Aaron.

Ashley Wragg - Youth Academy Secretary

Weekend Round-Up - Saturday 14th November 2009
With the Under 11s and Under 12s already scheduled to take a week off due to school transfer tests, the heavy rain played havoc with our remaining fixtures. Our Mini- Soccer teams were first hit with the news all games in the CND League were cancelled and by Saturday morning, both the Under 13s game vs Lisburn Wanderers and also the Youth Team and their eagerly awaited game against Glentoran were both called off due to the weather.

The three games that went ahead all produced plenty of goals. The Under 16s beat Banbridge 7-2 at Suffolk with a hat-trick from Aaron Healey (3), a brace from Curtis McCaughey (2) and also goals from Mikey Withers and Ross Boyd. The Under 15s beat Greenisland 6-0 with goals from Nathan Lavery (2), Matthew Geddis (2), Michael Fegan (1) and also Cameron Burke (1). Both the Under 15s and Under 16s remain unbeaten so far this season. The Under 17s lost out 4-2 to Loughall in the early kick off at Barbour with Sean Morgan scoring both Whites goals.
Here’s hoping next Saturday the weather is a kinder to all!

Weekend Round-Up Saturday 28th November 2009

As we reach the end of November in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League, three of our six teams remain unbeaten and challenging towards the top place in their respective age groups.
The Under 15s remain top with a 6-0 win over local rivals Lisburn Wanderers with Matthew Geddis firing home a hat-trick before a double from Michael Fegan and a goal from defender Gareth Ringland moved them onto a remarkable 28 points from only 10 games.
Under 16s’ Development Coach Sam Allen had plenty to cheer about as his side secured a 2-0 win over Glentoran to move within a point of top placed Ballymena United, but the Wee Whites still have a game in hand.  Whites’ keeper Ryan McBride was again in fine form between the sticks and there was a great performance from Player of the Month, Ryan Harron.
The Under 13s remain in the top four after another encouraging performance against Loughall, winning 4-1. A goal apiece from midfield pair Chris Walmsley and Ben White and also strikes from Ryan Campbell and Matty Gibson saw the Whites on their way.
The Under 11s continue to make huge strides forward again, with some excellent football, as they saw off Mid-Ulster rivals Loughall 5-1 at Moira. There were 2 goals each from Corey Geddis and Brett Conville and a deserved name on the score-sheet from Tyler Stone.
The Under 12s like most teams in their division had a Saturday off due to school transfer tests while the Under 17s were edged out 1-0 by a strong Crusaders outfit.
In the Irish Youth League Section A, Lisburn Distillery Youths’ re-arranged game against Glentoran at Ballymacoss went ahead with the Whites on the end of a 2-0 defeat.
December’s fixtures are released tomorrow night (Monday 30th November)

031209 - Daniel Kelly gets Northern Ireland U17 call-up
Congratulations to U17 defender Daniel Kelly who has been called up into the Under 17 Northern International squad get-together during the Christmas holidays.

The get-together will be held over two days, Tuesday 29 December and Wednesday 30 December 2009 and will involve training sessions under U17 International Team Manager Paul Kee.

No doubt Daniel will enjoy the experience.

Alan Craig, the Lisburn Distillery Youth Team Development Coach/Manager said; “Daniel joined the Whites from Greenisland Boys over 18 months ago and at 16 has already earned the Captain’s armband in Lisburn Distillery's Youth Team.

Since arriving at the club Daniel has risen to all challenges and is developing into one of the brightest prospects at the Academy. He has attracted interest from several cross-channel clubs and may I personally wish him all the best with his trial at Cardiff from the 10th to 13th of December and his recent call-up to the Northern Ireland Under 17s."

Andrew Stevenson, the Lisburn Distillery Academy Co-ordinator added; “On behalf of all the Academy staff, it gives me great pleasure in conveying our congratulations to Daniel Kelly on his recent call up to the Northern Ireland Under 17's get-together at the end of December.
Hopefully Daniel will enjoy his time with the International squad and both he and Lisburn Distillery will gain from the experience.

His ability, dedication and enthusiasm has ensured a rapid rise through the ranks at the club where in only his second season he has already represented the Under 17s, the Youth Team and more recently the Reserves.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Daniel good luck and every success in his forthcoming trial with Cardiff FC.”

051209 - Grassroot’s Leaders Award
Lisburn City's IFA Grassroots Development Officer Ken Duncan recently ran a Grassroot's Leaders Award coaching badge at Lisburn Leisureplex.

Four of our Academy Staff took part and we extend our thanks to Ken for running the course.

Andrew Stevenson, the Lisburn Distillery Academy Co-ordinator commenting on the event said; “Congratulations to Brian Hamill and John Kelly (Mini Soccer), Billy Shannon (Under 12s) and Ashley Wragg (Committee) who all successfully attained their Grassroots Leaders Award last week.

Getting a foot on the first rung of the coaching ladder is a positive move for both our coaches and the Academy.

We all want to be the best we can be, so courses like these are invaluable for our volunteers, providing them with the skills and knowledge required to help develop our young players.

Well done to them all.”

Academy Round-Up Saturday 5th December 2009
Lisburn Distillery Youth recorded an emphatic 4-1 win over league leaders Cliftonville Strollers at Ballymacoss: Nathan Johnston, Craig Paterson, Ryan McCurdy and Luke Adair all getting a share of the goals.
The Under 13s remain unbeaten and still in the top three with a 2-0 win over North Belfast outfit Loughside. Jordan McCracken and Michael McClory again saw the “Wee Whites” onto victory.

In the top of the table clash, the Under 15s drew 2-2 with Shankill Juniors to leave the “Wee Whites” 3 points ahead of their Belfast rivals and a single point above Loughall to stay in first place. Cory McCarron had an excellent game for Lisburn Distillery but plaudits must go to Nathan Lavery who scored both goals for Martin McDade’s team.

The Under 16s ten-game unbeaten run since the start of the season came to an end; for despite the lion’s share of possession against Greenisland, they went on to lose 1-0.

The Under 17’s went down 8-0 to Glenavon at Moira, but remain in sixth place while the Under 11s and Under 12s had no games this weekend due to the end of the school primary seven transfer tests.

The Lisburn Distillery Academy was able to take part in the recent Coaches Development Day organised by IFA Grassroots Officer Philip Melville at Billy Neill Playing Fields.

Weekend Round-Up - Saturday 12th December 2009

All eyes were on the Under 15s and Under 16s as they looked to earn a place in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League’s Shield Finals on 02nd January 2010.

The Under 16s kicked off in the early games this morning against Ballymena United but after full time and extra time the Whites lost out on penalties after the game had finished 2-2. Aaron Healey netted the first goal courtesy of a penalty before Ryan Harron added the second.
The Under 15s’ semi-final again went to extra time, after finishing 2-2. But Lisburn Distillery ran out 5-2 winners with goals from Cameron Burke (2), Nathan Lavery (2) and Mark Lyons to progress to the final.

Elsewhere, at the Bog Road, the Under 11’s fine recent form continued with a 5-2 win over Lower Maze FC. The goals came from Thomas Ryan, Tyler Stone (2) and Matty Fegan (2).

At Fullerton Park, the Under 12s had a comfortable 7-1 victory over Lower Maze Youth. There were goals from Jason Tumilson (2), Callum Dougan, Bradley Shannon, while three players scored their first of the season: well done to Declan Curran, Owen Bradford and an outstanding strike from the impressive Cameron McAfee.

Chris Walmsley’s goal for the Under 13s secured a point in their 1-1 draw with Lower Maze FC, while the Under 17’s lost out to Glentoran 2-0.
Lisburn Distillery Youth came from behind at Ballymacoss to record a 1-1 draw with Ballymena United with a free-kick from Adam Robinson in added time.

Well done to all teams after today’s games but especially the Under 15s in making the Shield Final barely six months after the team was created from scratch. Full credit must go to Development Coach Martin McDade and also Gerard McCarron.

141209 - Lisburn Whites Supporters Club present bench coats to Academy

We would like to say a big 'Thank you' to the members of the Lisburn Whites Supporters Club for their help to our academy again this season.
The Supporters club bought all our Academy coaches new Umbro Bench Coats for the winter months. Their help again is much appreciated by everyone at Lisburn Distillery Academy.

David McKee and Michael Bell from the Lisburn Whites presented the new coats yesterday (Sunday morning) at Academy training at our base in Wedderburn. Academy Co-Ordinator Andy Stevenson passed on his thanks; "Both the Lisburn Whites and Grosvenor Whites Supporters Clubs have made a remarkable contribution to the Academy over the last couple of seasons” said Andy. “We are extremely fortunate to have the clubs supporters not only recognising and encouraging the role of the Academy but also putting their hands in their pockets yet again to help us out. Thank you again."

Weekend Round up Saturday 19th December 2009
In the last set of fixtures before Christmas may we take the opportunity first say a huge thank you to all our players, parents and coaches for their continued support and commitment throughout 2009 and we look forward collectively to next year.
With the Youth Team already enjoying their Christmas break, The Under 16s were shortly afterwards given Saturday off when their game against Sunnyside was postponed due to the weather.
In the morning’s early games, the Under 17s got back to form with a well deserved 2-1 win over Shankill Juniors: Paddy Thompson and Scott Burns scoring the goals for the Whites. The Under 12s fell to a 6-1 defeat at Lurgan Town with Declan Curran scoring their only goal. However, two new players, Michael Watson and Joel Jess made their debuts for the Under 12s and we wish them both the very best now they have joined the Lisburn Distillery FC Youth Academy.
The Under13s  finished the year on a high as they ran out 5-1 winners against Lurgan Town to remain undefeated so far this season in the Lisburn League and go level on points with league leaders Sunnyside. Goals for the Under 13s came from Alexander Toombs, Carter Livingstone, Chris Walmsley, Daniel McCrory and Ben White.
At Ballymacoss,  the Under 11s recent goalscoring exploits continued as they defeated Lower Maze 7-0. Thomas Ryan again opened the scoring, before Jordan Kennedy and Tyler Stone chipped in. Brett Conville scored a fantastic second-half hat-trick before adding his fourth goal of the game in the dying seconds. Meanwhile at the back, defender Chris Jones was key to helping the “Wee Whites” record a well-earned clean sheet.
In the biggest game of the day, the Under 15s let a two goal lead against Loughgall slip and finished with a 2-2 draw. Nathan Lavery and Matthew Geddis had already put Lisburn Distillery ahead early in the game. Despite this, the Under 15s will begin the New Year in top place in their league and with the Shield Final on January 2nd to look forward to.
January’s league fixtures are released on Monday 28th December while the Under 11s and Under 12s are in league action again on the morning of  Wednesday 30th December against Sunnyside and Ballyclare Comrades respectively.

Have an enjoyable break

271209 – U15s set for Shield Final

Lisburn Distillery's Academy Under 15's side are in preparations for this Saturday’s Lisburn Junior Invitational League Shield Final against Shankill Juniors.

The game is being played at Ballymacoss Playing Fields (off the Knockmore Road in Lisburn) with an 11.15 am kick off. All support for the “Wee Whites” is very welcome.

In previous meetings, both league games between these sides have been drawn this season, whilst their only other previous fixture was during the summer at the Foyle Cup, were Lisburn Distillery ran out 2-1 winners.

The Under 15’s side is only in their first season at Lisburn Distillery; the side being created from a blank canvas over the summer months by Development Coach Martin McDade along with Gerard McCarron. The team are currently top of the league, unbeaten in both it and cup action so far this season, and have in recent weeks recruited both Eric Conroy and Justin Sheppard to assist with the team’s training and also on match-days.

After seeing off Dromara 7-0 in Round One, then Lisburn Wanderers 12-0 in the quarter final stages, the “Wee Whites” needed extra time at the semi-final stages before finally getting the better of Hillsborough Boys 5-2, to progress to Saturday's showpiece final.

Development Coach Martin McDade said; "I’m really looking forward to this one; it should be an excellent game of football. We have came so far in such a short space of time - to win the Shield really would be the icing on the cake for the players’ efforts and attitude so far this season. I'd like all fans and friends of Lisburn Distillery to come down to the game and see the next generation in action.'

We wish the team all the very best for Saturday's Shield Final.

Weekend Round-Up -  Saturday 23rd Jan 2010

After several weeks without action, Saturday witnessed the return of a full Lisburn Junior Invitational League programme.
The Under 12s started the Academy fixtures for the weekend at the Rec but were beaten 6-1 by Ballymena United with Callum Dougan on target for the “Wee Whites”.
The Under 11s recorded another free-scoring win, beating Ballyclare Comrades 6-2 at the Shore Road in North Belfast. Thomas Ryan, Tyler Stone, Reece Morton were all on the score-sheet as Brett Conville netted a hat-trick. Up the road at the Loughside, the Under 17s had a comfortable 8-0 win over Lower Maze Youth, the goal-scorers included Daniel Kelly, Sean Morgan and Mikael Crothers.
The Under 16s were beaten 1-0 by Ballyclare Comrades at the Barbour Playing Fields, whilst the Under 13s and Under 15s kept up their own respective unbeaten runs since the start of the season. 300110 – Ryan and Nathan get called –up
Following on from Danny Morgan's call up to the Northern Ireland Under 18 Schoolboys’ squad, Ryan Irwin from the 16s has been invited to participate in the forthcoming Northern Ireland U16 residential weekend in February.

The purpose of this get-together is to select and prepare a squad to travel to Malta in February. Ryan was part of last year’s Northern Ireland under 15 Tri-Nations squad

We would also like to wish the very best to Nathan Lavery in the U15s who has been successful in the trials for this year’s Tri-Nations squad.

Good luck to Ryan and Nathan from everyone at the Lisburn Distillery Youth Academy.

Academy Round up Saturday 30th January 2010

Yet another weekend of below zero temperatures ensured that once more the Lisburn Junior Invitational League schedule was hit hard with postponements to games. All six of Lisburn Distillery’s Academy teams in the league were hit with the news on Saturday morning that their respective matches would be off due to the weather.

However, Lisburn Distillery Youth's afternoon game, away to Linfield, went ahead. Despite leading taking the lead and going 2-0 up early in the game with goals from Ryan McCurdy and Mark Anderson, the Whites were however beaten by a strong Linfield outfit who ended up winning the game 4-2.

Weekend Round Up-Sat 6th February 2010

It was back to the search for silverware this weekend as the First Rounds of the Lisburn Junior Invitational League’s cups took place.

Four of our six teams made it through to the next stage and await the quarter-final draw. However, the Under 16s and Under 12s made an early exit from the competition. The Under 16s lost 2-1 to Glentoran with Aaron Healey bagging only a consolation goal for the “Wee Whites”; meanwhile at Aghalee the Under 12s were beaten by a strong Lisburn Youth outfit.

Matthew Geddis scored a goal in either half to ensure the Under 15s defeated Sunnyside 2-0 at Ballymacoss. Taylor Craig also deserving a share of the plaudits in the Lisburn Distillery goal with a collection of great saves. The Under 13s marched on with a 4-1 win over Banbridge: goals from Martin Greenfield, Ben White, Matthew Hunter and Chris Walmsley continuing their fine recent form. Scott Burns scored twice as the Under 17s knocked out Tandragee 2-1 at Wallace Park.

Tyler Stone, Thomas Ryan (2) and Matty Fegan fired in the goals for the Under 11s as they knocked out North Belfast outfit Loughside 4-1. Development Coach Tom Ryan added: “We played some fantastic football again today and all credit to the players: over the last 7 or 8 games we’ve been in great form and the quality of the football they are playing has merited the good results we have been getting. They are a really good bunch of kids and a real credit to everyone at Lisburn Distillery.’

While the Youth Team enjoyed the afternoon off, several of Alan Craig’s players made the step up and played for Lisburn Distillery Seconds as they took on Linfield Swifts at Midgeley Park.

Also, the Under 10 Age group at the Academy played their first full 11-a-side game, against Ridgeway as they look towards making their own step up from Mini Soccer to Junior League later this year. They can take plenty of positives in an end-to-end game edged by Ridgeway 6-4. Luke Storey, Jonathon Cowan and Kyle Brown all got on the score-sheet whilst Jay McGlinchey and Aaron Winters starred for the Whites - all in all a good mornings workout.

Well done to all our teams – “C’mon The Whites”

080210 – Whites sign up Academy graduates

The continuing development and importance of Lisburn Distillery’s Youth Academy was further emphasised with the signing of five Academy Under 17 players on 18 month amateur contracts through to the end of the 2010-2011 season.

Last week, Caomhin McAllister, Sean Morgan, Craig Spiers, Ross Wright and Conor McGeown  all put pen to paper overseen by Lisburn Distillery Community Relations Officer Stevie Nutt and Lisburn Distillery Secretary Ashley Wragg.

Weekend Round-Up - Saturday 13th February

It was back to league action this weekend for our six Lisburn League teams
and entertainment was certainly not short of supply. The Under 11s came away with all three points in a 10-goal thriller, there was a hat-trick from Under 16s Clarke Hainon, Sean Morgan celebrated signing a contract with Lisburn Distillery during the week with a superb strike in the local derby while Under 12s goalkeeper Ross Jackson kept a clean sheet in his “Wee Whites” debut.

In the only early kick-off, the eagerly anticipated Under 17s game against Lisburn Youth finished 3-2 to Lisburn Distillery. Goals from Sean Morgan, Scott Burns and John Doherty saw the Whites move up to 7th in the league.

The Under 11s made yet another trip to the Shore Road, this time to face east Antrim outfit Greenisland. Despite coming in at half-time 4-2 down, their recent winning run still goes on following a barnstorming second-half which ended up 6-4 to the boys in White. Brett Conville bagged a brace while Thomas Ryan, Junior Hayes and Levi Tazzioli all weighed in with the goals.
At Wallace Park, the Under 16s returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Loughall. Aaron Healey,Ryan Harron and Ian Wilson all scoring and there was also that hat-trick from Clark Hainon. The Under 15s top of the table clash with Loughall ended with a 1-1 draw at Ballymacoss: Matthew Geddis again on the scoresheet for Lisburn Distillery to ensure a tense run-in to the end of the season with Shankill, Lisburn Distillery and Loughall all within two points of each other at the top.
The Under 13s fantastic unbeaten league run came to an end; they were defeated, after the 14th attempt this season, 4-1 and their run ended by Lisburn Youth despite Ryan Campbell’s goal at Glenmore. The under 13s will no doubt dust themselves off for a tough tie against Sunnyside next weekend, with the Under 11s and Under 12s both also facing the Lurgan based club.
The Under 12s recorded a 2-0 win over Hillsborough boys at Moira. Ross Jackson made his debut in goal for Distillery and midfielder Conor Appleyard also made his first appearance. Despite Hillsborough struggling to get out of their own half for long periods it wasn’t until the start of the second half the Whites took the lead: Bradley Shannon powering home a header into the roof of the net from a well-worked corner routine before Callum Dougan’s neat finish ensured all three points.
In the Irish Youth League Section A, Lisburn Distillery were leading 2-1 at Donegal Celtic Park against our local rivals with Paddy Thompson putting the Whites ahead after Mark Anderson’s goal from the penalty spot. However, the final 15 minutes ensured it would be a bad day at the office as an unfortunate own goal and the referee’s red card meant Distillery would leave licking their wounds after a 5-2 defeat.
The Youth Team play Loughall next week in the first round of the Irish Youth League Cup. We wish them, and all our teams the very best of luck.

Weekend Round-Up - Saturday 20th February 2010

Yet again the cold snap ensured that the weekend’s Lisburn League, Mini Soccer and Youth Team’s fixtures were all postponed at the last minute.
It’s been a frustrating season on account of the weather for all the local football teams.

Fingers crossed next Saturday sees the weekend’s fixtures all go-ahead!

Weekend Round-up - 28th February 2010
The weather yet again prevented virtually all the weekend’s fixtures from going ahead.
The only venue to survive the wind and rain was the Billy Neill Complex on the Comber Road at Dundonald where the Under 13s recorded a solid 3-2 victory over Ridgeway Rovers in Lisburn League action. Goals came courtesy of winger Carter Livingstone, defender Ryan Campbell and forward Martin Greenfield.

Lisburn Distillery Football Club’s Mini Soccer teams also played on Saturday at Billy Neill and as usual there were plenty of goals to celebrate. Lewis Parker, Matthew Upritchard and Luke Storey all on target as the 2001 team upstaged Linfield and for the 2000's team, Josh Conville, Ryan Jackson and Jordan Walker scored while Kyle Brown (2) bagged a brace and Jackson Warren completed a superb hat-trick against Carnmoney.

Our youngest Academy team, the 2002s (Under 8s) also continued their free-scoring season: Ben Hamill, Josh McMaster, Michael McCrory and Daryl Hamill sending the 'Wee Whites' on their way with goals and a special mention goes to Lewis Higginson who also fired in a hat-trick to complete the weekends goals.

030310 - David Arnott to represent Belfast Primary School Select Team
Under 12 Centre Back David Arnott, a pupil at Fane Street Primary School, Belfast, has successfully made it into the Belfast Primary School Select team, following weeks of trials and matches.

David joined the Lisburn Distillery Academy from Lisburn Youth in the summer of 2009 where he played as a left midfielder; however it was clear to see that his natural ability best suited him as a cultured Sweeper, with a powerful shot.

His outstanding performances this season led him to winning the September player of the month award, and he is also the teams’ first choice penalty taker.

On behalf of myself, Billy Shannon, David Irwin, Mark Austin and everyone at the Academy we would like to say “Well done and Congratulations” to David on such an achievement.

Weekend Round Up Saturday 6th March 2010

With the sun shining high in the sky and after several frustrating weeks of postponements and cancellations to matches, Saturday witnessed a much anticipated return to a full programme of fixtures.

Four of our Lisburn League teams were in Cup Quarter-Final action: The Under 11s and Under 17s both making it into the hat for the Semi-Final Draw while the Under 15s and Under 13s bowed out of their respective competitions.  The Under 17s defeated Glenavon 3-2 with goals from Conor Deering (2) and Sean Morgan and the Under 11s defeated Lurgan Town 5-2 with a hat-trick from Tyler Stone and further goals from Corey Geddis and Matty Fegan.

Luke Russell and Michael Fegan both scored for the Under 15s as they lost out narrowly to North Belfast Utd, 3-2, while Ben White’s strike for the Under 13s was only a consolation as they lost out to Ballyclare Comrades 3-1.

In League action, the Under 16s drew 2-2 against Shankill Juniors with goals from Curtis McCaughey and Aaron Healey. The Under 12s had a comfortable 6-0 win against Seagoe Youth with goals from Conor Appleyeard, Jason Tumilson (2) and a second hat-trick of the season for Callum Dougan.

In the Irish Youth League Section A, LDFC Youth lost 2-1 to Newry City Wanderers with Bradley Morton on target for the Whites.
Special mention this week goes to both of our 2002 Teams (Under 8s) after great performances against both Castle Juniors and Carryduff Colts, As usual there were goals galore! Scorers included Lewis Higginson (7) Michael McCrory, Conor Ewing  and Ryan Francey (4 each) and also Darryl Hamill and Callum Parker.

Despite a few setbacks in recent weeks for Lisburn Distillery FC, its nice to see the “Future’s Still White”.

Lisburn Distillery Academy’s Ryan Irwin has been included in the Northern Ireland Under 16 Squad to play the first of two friendlies against Poland.

Everyone at Lisburn Distillery FC wishes Ryan all the best and hope he enjoys the experience.

Ryan was part of the Northern Ireland Under 15 Squad that competed in the Tri-Nations tournament in Cardiff last May and has been a key player in Lisburn Distillery Academy’s Under 16 team this season. The team which was only created over the summer months for the start of the 2009/2010 season has performed exceptionally in its’ first season and is currently second in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League  - only 3 points behind league leaders Ballymena United.
The news comes at a great time for Ryan who only last week signed an amateur contract with Lisburn Distillery FC.
The first game against Poland will be played on Tuesday 23rd March at Drumaness FC (ground located at Drumaness, between Ballynahinch and Seaforde) with a 1.00pm kick off.

Weekend Round Up Saturday 13th March 2010
The middle of March always seems to be a good time of year for football; the Easter break around the corner, the clocks going forward, the end of indoor training and finally getting back outside on the grass and perhaps even the faintest glimpse of a summer break. Someone was even heard to whisper it’s the ‘business end’ of the season.
On Saturday morning, over a hundred players played at various age groups for Lisburn Distillery’s Academy.
Lisburn Distillery’s Youth Team got off to the perfect start in the Irish Youth League Cup with a First Round win over Loughall. A 2-0 win was ensured with goals from Nathan Jones and full-back Mark Anderson. They now meet Glenavon in the Second Round.

At Seaview, the Under 17s lost out to Crusaders 1-0, while at Fullerton Park, the Under 16s let a 2-0 lead slip against Glentoran before the East Belfast outfit ran out 5-2 winners. Goals for the Whites came from Mikey Withers and Curtis McCaughey.
The Under 15s had a comfortable 5-0 win over local rivals Lisburn Wanderers: James Singleton (2) was on the scoresheet and as well there were goals from Cameron Burke, Jordan Gibson and Nathan Lavery.
At Dromara, the Under 13s returned to form with a 6-0 win over Dromara FC: goals this time from Carter Livingstone, Ben White, Marty Greenfield, Matty Hunter, Michael McClory and Jordan McCracken.
The Under 12s made it 3 clean sheets on the spin with a 1-0 victory against Loughside. This  6-pointer (due to fixture congestion) gives the team a confusing 12 points from 3 games!  Callum Dougan’s early goal, the difference between the two sides.

Not to be outdone, the Under 11s made a remarkable comeback against Lisburn Youth to take a point in a keen local derby. 3-0 down at half-time, Brett Conville scored a second-half hat-trick to level the game at 3-3 at Glenmore.
Our Mini-Soccer teams also continue to flourish: goalscorers this weekend included Josh McMaster, Michael McCrory, Daryl Hamill, Lewish Higginson and Ben Hamill.
Well done to all our teams again this weekend

A hat-trick from Ben White helped our Under 13s go to the top of their league with an 8-0 win over Lisburn Wanderers. Michael McClory (2), Matty Gibson, Ryan Campbell and Carter Livingstone also weighing in with a share of the goals.
Congratulations are in order for Callum Dougan after the Under 12’s striker scored his 20th goal of the season, against Lower Maze FC. Further goals from Conor Appleyard and Jason Tumilson ensured a 3-2 Whites’ win as their good run continued.
Crusaders were beaten 3-0 by Lisburn Distillery’s Under 16s at Ballymacoss as Mikey Withers, Clark Leighton and Ryan Harron scored for the Whites whilst the Under 17s were edged out 1-0 by Glenavon.

At the Blanchflower Stadium, Glentoran ran out 3-1 winners over Lisburn Distillery Youth with Craig Paterson on target for the Whites.
Several players made the step-up this weekend to play for older age groups. The Under 16s and Under 17s both called up a number of players from the Under 15 squad, whilst a lot of the regular Youth Team squad were also called up into action for the club’s seconds game.
Well done to all our teams, coaches and players again this weekend.

040410 - Under 15s lose out to ‘Golden Goal’ in Shield Final

Road to the final
1
st Round: 03/10/09: Beat Dromara 7-0
Quarter Final: 07/11/09: Beat Lisburn Wanderers 12-0
Semi-Final: 12/12/09: Beat Hillsborough Boys 5-2 (after extra time)

Report

Lisburn Distillery’s Under 15s lost out to Shankill Juniors in the dying minutes of extra-time by virtue of a ‘golden goal’ after the tie was deadlocked at 0-0.
Front pair Nathan Lavery and Michael Fagan both went close on several occasions for the Whites while Michael Toland, James Singleton and full-back Shane Graham all failed to get the breakthrough in front of goal to take a first-half lead. Goalkeeper Taylor Craig was called into action only once in the first half and dealt comfortably with the Shankill attack.

Despite dominating for large periods of the game and limiting Shankill to only rare forages into the Whites half, time after time Lisburn Distillery saw their efforts hit straight into the arms of the opponent’s goalkeeper or dragged agonisingly wide of the target.

The second half introductions of Matthew Geddis and Clark Leighton livened up the Whites’ attack and forced a succession of corners, but efforts in front of goal remained fruitless. The second-half also saw Shankill reduced to ten-men but to their credit the west Belfast outfit dug even deeper and caused the Whites a real scare when a driven cross was met at the front post and looped over the static Whites’ defence and then narrowly over the bar. Clark Leighton’s stunning volley was pushed around the post at the other end to ensure the score remained goal-less.

Full-time score: 0-0

As extra time began Lisburn Distillery played into the wind and rain as the game became a somewhat messy affair. A couple of deliveries from the right blazed across goal as the Whites again failed to capitalise.
The sucker-punch arrived in the dying minutes of second-half of extra time when Shankill broke down the Lisburn Distillery left flank and a determined run resulted in a near-post cross between the Lisburn Distillery keeper and defence. From that somehow the oncoming Shankill forward arrived and bundled the ball home to lift the Shield with the golden goal.
Lisburn Distillery will be very disappointed losing a game in which they enjoyed the majority of possession and chances in front of goal and in fairness the game should have been over as a contest early in the second-half had the Whites have found their shooting boots. In full credit to Shankill Juniors though, they contested every ball and kept going, even when down to ten men, showing great attitude and commitment.

The Lisburn League’s top-two Under 15 sides return to league action this week with Lisburn Distillery two points clear above second-placed Shankill Juniors who have a game in hand. The run-in could yet provide even more drama.
Well played both teams.

Elsewhere on Saturday
In the only other Academy game this weekend, Lisburn Distillery Youth took the lead against Cliftonville Strollers with a superb free-kick from Mark Anderson before the Reds proved too strong, running out 4-1 winners at Mallusk.

Lisburn Distillery Academy's Under 9 team returned from the TCFC Football Festival, held in Tullycarnet, Belfast, on Sunday in great spirits after all the players came home with medals and another trophy for the Academy's cabinet.

Well done to the squad and coach Jonny Turner, whose side recorded four wins out of four games.

Johnny would like to thank all the players who took part and the parents who came out to support the “Wee Whites”.

A huge well done our players: Salvijus, Matthew, Tyler, Josh, Dane, Kyle, Corey, Johnathon and Cameron

Also a deserved mention for both our 2002s’ teams this weekend who scored an incredible 35 goals between them!
Under the watchful eye of coaches Colin Hamill, Colin Higginson and Brian Hamill there were goals from all over the park from Lewis, Michael, Josh, Callum, Ben, Ryan, Darryl, Connor and Reece.
